For its January/February 2005 issue, IEEE Computer Graphics and Applications magazine will feature peer-reviewed articles about various demonstrations from the Emerging Technologies exhibit at Siggraph 2004. A special CD-ROM supplement will feature videos of the projects filmed at the conference. The chair of this year's Emerging Technologies, Heather Elliott-Famularo of Bowling Green State University, and committee member Paul Dietz of Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratories, are the guest editors of this special issue.
The issue and accompanying CD will cover state-of-the-art applications in fields such as augmented and virtual reality, ubiquitous computing, real-time graphics, mobile technologies, robotics, haptics, gaming, the Web, wearable systems, visualization, collaborative environments, entertainment, and art.
Professionals who work in the development of computer graphics technologies and applications are often unable to attend top conferences—the venues where interactive demos and instruction are typically shared. Recognizing the limitations of traditional articles and case studies to convey the strength of new applications, and capitalizing on the technologies developed by the very community CG&A serves, CG&A's editorial board has been acquiring multimedia content for its series of CD supplements since the July/August
2002 issue.
This is the second year in a row that CG&A has covered the Emerging Technologies exhibit. Projects from last year's exhibit were featured in the January/February 2004 issue. CDs from that issue will be available for free at booth 2031 at Siggraph 2004.
